About Me

Before I began using the Suzuki Method, I only wanted to teach intermediate and advanced students. However, when the youngest of my six children was four, I attended a Suzuki Piano School summer training program for teachers at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. I was stunned to see and hear many very small children playing the piano better than could the students, including myself, in a master class for graduate students that I had recently attended at a major university. Obviously, there was something wrong with the way I and many others had learned!

Since then I no longer wanted to teach only intermediate and advanced students, and preferred teaching beginners. I continued to attend summer training programs with Dr. Kataoka and others in Stevens Point and San Francisco. I memorized all seven of the Suzuki Piano School volumes. A few years later I started the St. Louis Suzuki Education Program in Missouri. A recital presented at Webster University was a huge success.

California

Then we moved to California where I finished my degree in Music Education with an award for outstanding work in advanced music theory. I was a director of California State University Conservatories at Dominguez Hills in Carson, and South Shores Magnet School for the Arts in San Pedro. My many students have all learned to play better than I could when I first attended that training program in Stevens Point.

Because depending on the written music can interfere with developing the sensitive ear, good memory, and skillful technique that is essential for excellent performing, I never emphasized music reading with my students and some of them didn't become very good at it. So, I have developed "I Read Music" for those who don't have time for inefficient standard methods.

Now you can easily learn to read keyboard music (as well as you can play) and still have time for other interests.
